If you're looking for "lighter" gaming-related entertainment, try /r/gaming! Please look over our rules and FAQ before posting. #FREDDI FISH EMULATOR MAC MAC#The Mac and 1995 Windows versions do not./r/Games is for informative and interesting gaming content and discussions. Firebird's experimental rocket launching). The DOS and 3DO versions had "screen-vibrating" effects depending on the situation (Fatty Bear crashing off-screen into a garbage can, Mr. Some sound effects that are on the 1995 Windows versions but normally don't show up on the DOS versions when played natively or on DOSBox DO show up here, such as the air escaping when Putt-Putt blows his tires on the nails in "Parade," or the pop of Rover's thought bubble as Putt-Putt says "That's too bad!" in "Moon." ![]() The music will also sound exactly the same as if it were running the DOS version. If you play the Mac versions of the HE classics in ScummVM, for some strange reason the smaller yellowish-white cursors are replaced with the larger yellow cursors seen on the MS-DOS and 3DO versions. Keep in mind, when playing the games on ScummVM, you cannot use the regular pause menu, and can't silence or turn the music/background sound effects back on (I think you could, but that may be tricky.) You do get the option to turn the subtitles on in the post-1995 games when configuring the game's settings, AND when you play the MS-DOS and Mac versions of the HE classics, you can also customize the MIDI settings, even run it off your computer's general MIDI sound card! (ScummVM's default MIDI settings also sound pretty good, and also actually play the music at the same tempo as the Windows versions, unlike DOSBox or on a real MS-DOS system!) Additionally, the DOS versions still retain the ability to turn music and subtitles off or on when played in ScummVM (though they will use ScummVM's default versions of the info boxes instead of the original HE versions.)īut there are a few strange quirks involving ScummVM and the HE games at times. It can play all the HE games, no matter what platform version, except for "Pajama Sam 4" and "Putt-Putt: Pep's Birthday Surprise," because those games do not use the Scumm engine. #FREDDI FISH EMULATOR MAC MAC OS X#The third, and the most easiest, option is to just download and install the Mac OS X version of ScummVM. This would only work with the MS-DOS versions though, and only for the first three HE Junior Adventures and the Fun Packs (IDK if a DOS version of "Putt Putt and Fatty Bear's Activity Pack" was ever made.) If you have the DOS versions of the HE Classics and want to run those, there's a version of DOSBox available, and there's a similar and more easier program called Boxer designed for playing old MS-DOS games. The second is, if you want to just use the Mac versions, you could get an OS 9 emulator like SheepShaver. There are also virtualization options if you don't want to dual-boot (like Parallels Desktop and VirtualBox), but I'm not going into details. #FREDDI FISH EMULATOR MAC WINDOWS 7#IDK how well many HE games run on Windows 7 or 8, but I've even run the 1995 reissues of the HE Classics without many problems on XP!) ![]() You could use the Boot Camp dual-boot partition setup, so your Intel Mac will have OS X on one partition, and Windows on the other! (Be careful though, some of the more recent Intel Macs cannot use Windows XP with Boot Camp. ![]() The first is if you still need to use Windows for some other applications as well. But wait, there are still quite a few options! I thought I'd share this information here for anyone using a Macintosh computer made since 2006, as they use Intel's processors instead of the old PowerPC processors (I mostly use my MacBook computer from early 2009.) Currently, none of the HE games are compatible with Intel Mac processors or the Mac OS X operating system. ![]()
